This musical investigation has shown that while two pieces of music may seem completely different from each other, there can always be a couple of things that they may have in common. For example, contemporary Latin music may not seem at all related to ragtime, but in fact, there are a couple of things that link these two styles of music together. Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez and The Entertainer by Scott Joplin, help show the similarities between the two styles of music through the use of their rhythms, structures, and textures. It has been shown that syncopation, rondo-form and polyphonic textures are major similarities between the two styles of music and that similarities between two music styles can be the smallest of things but they can still link the two styles together.
